Fairmont Dubai is a well known 5* hotel in Dubai which simply leads to high expectations when it comes to special occasions including the Holy Month of Ramadan. Fairmont Dubai had set up a beautiful tent like atmosphere along with several stations with wide range of options. The tables were carefully decorated with Ramadan ornaments and snacks including fancy dates which my eyes immediately caught and it all seemed like a good start!
According to my experience, buffets are difficult to review as for most of them, nothing stands out but I will be mentioning my favourites from each category and a star dish/station.
Chilled Arabic and Turkish Mezzah
- Rocca with Shanklish
The name sounded very interesting as well as the taste. Shanklish is Middle Eastern cheese with a similar texture to feta. It was a delicious Mezze starter with a twist of Rocca which is almond flavor candy like texture.
- Quinoa salad with halloumi and citrus fruits
For all who would like to save few carbs, the salad bar is meant for you. It would bd almost healthy if only the Halloumi cheese was grilled but it tasted decent with my made up combination of yogurt and pitta bread. Also, surprisingly, the tangy flavor did compliment the cheese quiet well.
Seafood Ice Bar
- Smoked salmon
Not a Ramadan dish but for those who would like to have the usual courses, it was fresh and juicy delicacy.
Hot Arabic Mezzeh
- Spinach fatayer and Akawi Cheese Sambousek
Iftar buffet is incomplete without these finger food shaped pastries. Right chew, flavor and colour! The best feeling is when, the cheese isn’t too dry but instead has a perfect texture.
Live carving station
It’s time to announce, the star station, Live carving station. (Tadaa) Believe it or not, everything on this live station tasted fantastic and we had the most from here. Especially, it’s always fun to watch your shawarma in the making. If I had to choose the best, I would say Shawarma and fish.
- Chicken shawarma
- Whole fish
- Braised Ouzi lamb
- Shish Kofta, Shish Taouk, Shish Kebab
- Shrimp biryani
A very light treat with slightly spicy shrimps but a little more spicy would make it even taste better.
The second best station as it truly stood out with all the international options available.
- Lamb tajen (Moroccan)
The intense Moroccan lamp builds up a great dept of flavor with the correct spices which makes the dish very unique along with the crunchy Iranian rice.
- Tas kebabi (Turkish beef )
- Iranian Rice
There are countless versions of turkish beef and Tas Kebabi is one of them resulting into a flavourful and juicy course with some Iranian rice as well.
Dessert was especially prepared by Chef Tuomas Heikkinen and the options were never ending. From mouth watering Ramadan sweets to the classic desserts including ice cream. In easy words, our tummies were very happy to finish iftar on a sweet note.
We were also introduced to Faouzia Hilmy, the French/Moroccan artist and female calligrapher who gave the traditional art form of calligraphy a thoroughly modern makeover and we were stunned by her art work on the walls.
Overall, it was a successful discovery as for the wide selection of both international and middle eastern food plus the services were on point as for the staff was well informed and prepared.
Side note- we were offered shisha at Dhokuz and the atmosphere was wonderful but it might get a little sweaty but if you like to chill, it is a darn good spot along with a view.
